As content creators, we first focus on what our readers want and their satisfaction. Secondly, we write SEO-optimized blog posts that can move up in search engine results.
As we know that AI is transforming the landscape of content creation. With its rapid speed and scalability, it’s no surprise that many of us have turned to AI tools for our content writing.
But while AI can save us time and effort, it can also present challenges – like ensuring our content is SEO-optimized. Most often, the success lies in the prompt we provide.
Before writing blogs or articles using AI tools, our first step should be crafting effective prompts, which is a priceless skill. Through countless experiments with AI tools like ChatGPT, I’ve tried to discover the art of crafting effective prompts for SEO-friendly blog posts.

How to Design an SEO-optimized AI Prompt
Now, the question is how we can design a perfect AI prompt for generating an SEO-optimized blog post. In fact, there is no set of rules for how to make a well-thought-out AI prompt.
What can we do? We should practice a lot, and by understanding our needs, we can create a highly interactive prompt for our AI model.
Understanding the Purpose of Your Blog
The first thing you should think about is the purpose of your blog post will it be driving traffic, educating readers, promoting a product, or increasing engagement?
When you understand the purpose of your blog post, it will be easy for you to craft your prompt for your blog post, and most importantly, it will guide the entire content creation process.
And also, we should consider SEO factors while writing AI prompts to get a highly SEO-optimized blog post from our favorite AI tool.
Here, I take the SEO recommendations from Yoast SEO, which is one of the popular SEO plugins among bloggers. Check out this guide’s top tools for blogging websites to maximize your blog’s potential.
Incorporating SEO Elements in Your Prompt
These could include:
- Blog Title: The first impression for both readers and search engines. It should be engaging and include the focus keyphrase.
- SEO Title: Slightly different from the blog title, this appears in search engine results and should also contain the focus keyphrase.
- Meta Description: This short description shows up in search results under the SEO title. It should clearly describe the blog and include the focus keyphrase.
- Focus Keyphrase: The main keyword(s) your blog post is targeting.
- Excerpt: A brief overview of the blog post.
- Tags: This helps categorize your post and helps readers find similar posts.
- Category Name: This is another way to organize your content and help readers find what they’re looking for.
- URL Slug: The part of the URL specific to this post. It should be clear, descriptive, and contain the focus keyphrase.
Remember, in SEO, every detail matters. Each element contributes to your blog post’s visibility and reach, from your title and meta description to the focus keyphrase and tags.
Using Keywords Throughout the Post
We all know that for SEO, our keyword must be spread throughout the whole blog post.
So, your prompt should include the instructions for keyword optimization so that keywords should be uniformly distributed throughout the blog post, for example, appear in the SEO title, subheadings, and meta description.
Your prompt should also emphasize readability. Ask for sentences of good length (usually no more than 20 words), use transition words to ensure the logical flow, and use bullet points while it is relevant for easy reading and understanding.
Adding a Personal Touch
While SEO optimization is crucial, your content should feel natural and personal. Your prompt should request personal anecdotes, storytelling elements, and smooth transitions between sections to prevent an AI-generated feel.
Example of a Well-Crafted Prompt
It’s challenging to write a well-crafted prompt, but here’s an example to guide you:
Consider you’re an expert SEO content writer. Write a comprehensive blog post on the provided blog topic, ensuring to adhere to SEO best practices throughout the blog post. In particular, your blog post should:
- Be clear and easily understandable. Break down complex ideas and use examples and reasoning to support your points.
- Be engaging. Incorporate storytelling elements and a personal touch to ensure it doesn’t feel like AI-generated content.
- Include the focus keyphrase in the following elements: Blog Title, SEO Title, Meta Description, Focus Keyphrase, Excerpt, Tags, Category Name, and URL Slug.
- Maintain an appropriate density of the focus keyphrase. The keyphrase should appear in at least one subheading.
- Keep sentences concise. Try to limit the sentence length to 20 words as much as possible.
- Use transition words to ensure a smooth flow of ideas.
- Incorporate outbound links where they’re relevant and add value to the reader.
- Use bullet points and emojis where appropriate to enhance readability and engagement.
- Expand all sections in detail for comprehensive coverage of the topic.
Please note that you can deliver the blog post in multiple responses if necessary. Also, remember to perform a final SEO check before submission.
